Cubmaster's Message

"

"ONE day I wrote her name upon the strand,

But came the waves and washèd it away:

Again I wrote it with a second hand,

But came the tide and made my pains his prey."

In these beginning verses of a sonnet by Edmund Spenser, he describes how waves can shape and change a shoreline. Scientists have studied the ocean and waves for centuries, and we now know that each wave can contain a great deal of energy. The energy from a gentle wave may simply smooth a beach or slowly erode rocks. On the other hand, the energy from a tsunami can reap destruction over a large area. Boys, too, carry a great deal of energy. As a Pack of Cub Scouts, we have a lot of power available to us. As we work together as families or in the Pack, we can use that energy to make waves in a positive way.

Cubmobile Derby

The Pack would like to thank everyone for coming out to the Cubmobile Derby in June. We hope everyone enjoyed the relatively mild weather this year. Congratulations go out to the combined Den 4 and Den 7 Webelos 2 team for taking the first place ribbon.

Goshen

Eight boys and four adults ventured out into the mountainous wilderness of western Virginia for a week of hiking, swimming, hiking, campfires, and more hiking at Camp PMI in the Goshen Scout Reservation. The boys earned the Forester and Aquanot Activity Pins as they worked to earn both the Diamond W and the coveted PMI Adventure Awards. Highlights of the week included a hike to Swinging Bridge and a hike that took the group beyond the traditional stop of Viewing Rock up to the top of the ridge where they could see Jump Rock.
